We’ve set them up so you can get out there and see the real Tassie. No stress, no need to rough it, and no harm to the beautiful places that make this island so special.
 

Why go off-grid?

It’s all about freedom.

You can travel at your own pace, go where you want, and not worry about check-in times or squeezing into packed caravan parks. Some of the best spots in Tassie are the ones off the main track, and off-grid travel means you can find them.

It’s also a great way to save. You’ll avoid the cost of powered sites, and with everything you need already onboard, you can stay self-sufficient for days at a time. More than anything, it’s a chance to slow down and connect with nature: no noise, no crowds, just you, your van, and the wild.

What’s in our vans?

All of our vans come equipped with solar panels and large battery systems, allowing you to keep the lights on, the fridge cold, and your devices charged, no matter where you are.

The LED lighting is energy efficient, and it’s all been set up to get the most out of every bit of stored power.

You’ll have hot showers and running water, thanks to the generous onboard tanks and gas hot water system. Some of our vans are also equipped with inverters, washing machines, and optional extras such as Weber BBQs and bike racks. Everything you need to be comfortable and make the most of your trip is ready to roll.
 

A cleaner way to travel

We love Tassie, and we want to help protect what makes it so special. That’s why we’ve built sustainability into the way we do things.

Driving smoothly, planning smart routes, packing light, and charging during the day can all make a real difference to fuel use and emissions. Inside the vans, we’ve stocked reusable dishware, tea towels, and eco-friendly cleaning supplies to help cut down on waste.

We encourage travellers to use approved dump points for grey and black water, keep showers short, and respect local wildlife by giving them space. It’s all about leaving places as beautiful as you found them.
 

What we’re doing at Tasmanian Caravan Hire

All our vans are off-grid capable, and we’re continuing to build on that. We’ve swapped out paper for digital guides and checklists, and we use rainwater from our two large tanks to clean and refill the vans onsite.

We’ve also got some exciting projects in the works, including a Solar Boost Program to make even more vans capable of longer off-grid trips, in-van QR code video guides to help you get set up easily, and a Local Produce Trail to help you discover amazing Tassie-made goods at farm gates, markets, and roadside stalls.
